WANA, March 10: Tribal militants have decided to take their own security measures to curb lawlessness in the South Waziristan Agency. Sources said leaders of various militant outfits and Ulema met here in a mosque on Friday and expressed concern over the prevailing lawlessness in the area, particularly in the Wana sub-division.

The self-declared commander of different militant groups, Haji Mohammad Omar, presided over the meeting.

The meeting decided that armed volunteers would operate in the sub-division to check criminal activities and address grievances of the people.

A 30-member Shoora (consultative body), comprising heads of different militant groups and Ulema, would be set up to monitor situation in their respective areas.

These decisions were announced through loudspeakers from mosques asking people to cooperate with the volunteers and the Shoora members.

A tribal elder attending the meeting said the proposed Shoora would appoint some Ulema to redress complaints and solve property and other disputes of the people.

He said the law and order situation had worsened in the entire agency.
