RAWALPINDI: The Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) anti-corruption team, along with a drug controller team, jointly conducted raids against fake and unregistered medicines in the wholesale market in Rawalpindi’s Bohar Bazaar on Sunday and recovered drugs worth over Rs10 million.

A senior FIA official said two medical stores were raided and a large quantity of unregistered and fake medicines were recovered, including prohibited drugs.

The value of the exported drugs is more than Rs10 million.

Fake, unregistered and prohibited drugs were seized in the presence of a drug inspector, the FIA official said, adding that recovered medicines were handed over to the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (Drap), and an investigation was launched against the accused.

Further legal action will also be taken in the light of report of the drug controller authorities.

Drug Controller Rawalpindi Naveed Anwar Chaudhry, Drug Controller Munir Ahmad and FIA Anti-Corruption Team Assistant Director Noman Khalil, Inspector Adil Malik and sub-inspectors Danish Sarfraz and Shahzad Sarwar conducted the raids. Besides, the district drug inspector and drug controller authority Rawalpindi officials were also present.

The FIA anti-corruption circle in Islamabad also conducted five raids against elements involved in the sale of unregistered medicines. Besides, strict actions have been initiated against the ones involved.

The FIA official said special raiding teams had been formed and all resources were being used to arrest the accused.
