KOHAT, March 9: Police killed a carrier and seized huge quantity of drugs and weapons after an encounter with a gang of smugglers in Amozwala Banda near the Lachi town on Thursday.

A police team, headed by ASP Karim Khan, acting on a tip off that a gang would make an attempt to smuggle arms and drugs from Darra Adamkhel, frontier region of Kohat, into Punjab, challenged them on the Lachi mountains.

After a brief exchange of fire one smuggler was killed whereas his other accomplices manage to escape leaving behind the consignment.

The victim was identified as Gul Qadir Khan, a resident of district Karak.

The seizure included three Kalashnikovs, two kilograms of opium, 18 kilograms of fine quality hashish and 270 cartridges, a press release issued on Thursday said.
