BAHAWALPUR: Vehari district administration has ordered an inquiry into the alleged recovery of Ramazan Nigheban package hampers from a locked house at Chak 83/WB.

According to an official handout, Vehari Deputy Commissioner Syd Asef Hussain Shah has constituted a committee headed by revenue and general additional deputy commissioners and assistant commissioner to probe into the matter and submit a report to him.

The district administration’s spokesman, quoting the DC, claimed the ration bags under the Punjab government’s relief scheme were being distributed through a computer application in a transparent manner.

He added that in case of any mismanagement, strict action would be taken against the officials found responsible for it. He said that a 47 empty and open ration bags were recovered from a house at 83/WB.

However, as per sources some 600 ration bags worth Rs2.4 million were recovered from the house of one Muhammad Asghar at the village.

The sources say that the Mailsi AC’s reader Shakil Ahmed had allegedly dumped the bags after renting the house.

On the identification by locals, Tehsildar Shahid Nawab conducted a raid on the house on Sunday, seized the ration bags and sealed the premises.

ENCOUNTER: A suspect allegedly involved in 14 dacoties and robberies was serious injured in a “police encounter” on Monday in the limits of Kahrorepucca police station, Lodhran district.

According to district police spokesperson, the arrested suspect Jahangir Dadpotra was being taken to a place by a police party for the recovery of stolen articles when three unidentified motorcyclists opened fire to free him. However, the bullets hit Dadpotra, who was seriously injured. Meanwhile, the attackers fled away, he claimed.

The police shifted the injured suspect to hospital for treatment and registered a case against the fleeing attackers, he added.
