SWABI: The police conducted a mock security drill at Chinese Camp of the Tarbela Dam’s Fifth Extension project here on Thursday to check the personnel’s preparedness for and response to any emergency situation.

Topi DSP Mohammad Shafiq Khan and SHO Niaz Ali Khan supervised the exercise in which personnel of the Elite Force, Rapid Response Force, and Rescue 1122 participated.

Head of the security department at Tarbela Camp Naseerullah Khan and other staff members were also present on the occasion.

In a statement issued by the police here, DPO Haroon Rashid Khan said the main objective of the exercise was to “test the performance of officers and personnel and keep them ready to meet with any issue related to security that is their first and foremost priority.”

He said the grill also helped the police assess the minimum response time in case of an emergency.

The DPO lauded the skills, tactics, and rapid response shown by the personnel, who, he said, underwent modern training.

Another police official said Tarbela Dam was one of the key strategic areas in the district.

He said the presence of Chinese workers increased the importance of the Tarbela Dam Fifth Extension project from a security perspective and the prevailing law and order situation in the country, especially in the province.

THREE KILLED: Three people were killed in separate incidents here on Thursday.

Mashuq Ali, 38, was electrocuted after he accidentally touched a live power wire in his house in Shera Ghund village of Razaar tehsil.

Gunmen killed Aamir Nawaz, 30, outside his house in Kotha village, and fled.

The Topi city police registered an FIR and began an investigation.

Armed men attacked Waqas Khan, 22, in Ismaila village.

The villagers took him to the tehsil headquarters hospital, whose doctors referred him to the Bacha Khan Teaching Hospital in Shamsmansoor, where he recorded a statement with the police naming Hamza Khan, Mohsin Khan and Asif Khan as the gunmen.

He died afterwards. The police registered an FIR and began an investigation.
