LAHORE, March 7: District nazim Mian Amer has made arrangements for the installation of free protective antennas on motorcycles at the Jinnah Hall till March 14.

Talking to newsmen here on Tuesday, the nazim said he would bear the entire expenditure of the installation of antennas to ensure that the motorcyclists were not killed or injured by the twine of stray kites.

He said the City District Government Lahore was in favour of a permanent ban on kite flying and had done so after a large number of people were killed and injured by the string last year.

He said the city government was making efforts for checking the sale and use of metal wire and prohibited chemical twine in accordance with the directions of the chief minister after a temporary relaxation in ban on kite flying by the Supreme Court.

He said the twine chemical worth Rs3.3 million had been confiscated by the city government, but it could not control the sale of metal wire as the kite-flyers were using clutch wire of motorcycles for the purpose. The Supreme Court had also imposed a ban on the use of glass powder-coated twine for flying kites.

The nazim said the CDGL teams were inspecting the shops and factories of 3,500 people who had got themselves registered for manufacture and sale of kite-flying material. Those found selling prohibited twine would be proceeded against, he said.
