ISLAMABAD, March 7: Pakistan and Italy on Tuesday signed an agreement to cooperate in science and technology. The agreement was signed by the Chairman, Higher Education Commission, Dr. Atta-ur-Rehman and Italian Education Minister Letizia Brichetto Arnaboldi Moratti.

The MoU aims at promoting bilateral cooperation in the field of science and technology jointly selected and targeted towards technological innovation, notably in disaster prevention.

Talking to mediapersons after the ceremony, the Chairman HEC said the MoU envisaged the establishment of an active cooperation framework between the two sides for the mitigation of seismic risk involving universities and research centres.

He said the project would be carried out through the deployment of an intense and concerted programme of research and training activities, together with management of post-earthquake emergencies.
