SWABI: Residents of Maneri Payan area demonstrated in the district headquarters here on Tuesday and demanded the immediate arrest of the killers of a young footballer, Farhan Khan.
Farhan, a member of Pakistan Air Force team, was killed five days ago when his motorcycle was hit be a speeding car on Swabi-Mardan Road. He succumbed to injuries in CMH Rawalpindi.
The protesters reached the Karnal Sher Khan Chowk, holding placards inscribed with different slogans, and demanding justice for the family of the deceased.
On the occasion, Jalil Ahmad, president of a welfare association, said the police should use all their resources and CCTV cameras’ footages to trace the killers of the footballer. “This is a test case for the district police,” he said.
Other speakers warned to stage more demonstrations if the police failed to arrest the young man’s killers in next three days.
When contacted, DSP Jawad Khan told Dawn that CCTV cameras had recorded the footage of a suspected car in the district headquarters, but due to heavy rain and power blackout at the time it was difficult to read the registration number of the vehicle. However, he said the police were examining the footages of CCTV cameras installed outside the district headquarters and by private people to reach the culprits.
“We hope the car will be traced soon. The people should trust the police and give us time,” he said.
MAN KILLED: A man was killed in Maneri Bala village on Tuesday, a Rescue 1122 official said.
He said a rescue team provided first aid to the injured and shifted him to District Headquarters Hospital in critical condition, where he succumbed to injuries.
Swabi city police officials said Ahmad Ali Khan, father of the deceased, Irfan Ali, told them that Shaukat Ali called him on his cell phone to come out of his house. He said when he stepped out, Shaukat opened fire, leaving his son seriously injured.
He said he didn’t know why his son was killed.
The police have registered an FIR and started investigation.
Separately, a man was killed when two vehicles collided near Karnal Sher Khan Interchange on the Islamabad-Peshawar Motorway on Tuesday.
The victim was critically injured in the accident and was taken to Bacha Khan Teaching Hospital, Shahmansoor, where doctors pronounced him dead.
He was identified as Mehboob Ali, a resident of Lower Dir.
Meanwhile, a man, who was injured in a road accident, last week, succumbed to injuries in a hospital here on Tuesday. He was identified as Zamar Ali Khan, a resident of Gadoon Amazai.
