Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) Chairman Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao has demanded an inquiry so that exemplary punishment could be handed to those who allegedly rigged the February 8 polls.

According to a press release shared on the party’s X account, Sherpao was speaking at the Central Executive Committee of his party when he said the nation expected the elections to bring political and economic stability to the country but it has instead had the opposite effect.

He held the chief election commissioner and other members of the Election Commission of Pakistan responsible for the alleged rigging.

He said that the returning officers, district returning officers, others and institutions behind the scenes were accountable to the nation for “wasting the national resources and undermining democracy”.

“Those who managed the elections deserve an exemplary punishment,” he said according to the press release.
