THIS is with reference to the report ‘Pro-Palestine banners barred at PSL games’ (Feb 21). Ironically, despite the fact that the state and government of Pakistan as well as its people have condemned Israeli atrocities against the Palestinians, the organisers of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) stopped spectators from showing solidarity with Palestine, arguing that such a display “may hurt some people”.

One is compelled to think who would be ‘hurt’ on showing sympathy for the Palestinians when the whole civilised world has been rallying against the Zionist state’s barbarity and killing of close to 30,000 Palestinians. It is good that people still found a way to express their sentiment over the social media (as can be seen in the accompanying screen-grab on the right).

In the early days of the latest conflict, there was much focus on boycotting Israeli products, and products of those companies that are supporting Israel. This was aimed at giving voice to the general sentiment and to hurt Israel economically.

Many of us did actually boycott such products. However, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chose in its infinite wisdom to have the PSL sponsored by one of the leading brands that was boycotted by the masses. Was it the sponsor who might have felt ‘hurt’? Is it the sponsor that is dictating terms to the PCB? Has the PCB actually agreed to such terms? By the looks of it, yes. And, that being so, we, the people, should consider boycotting the PSL.
