LOWER DIR: A jirga on Friday resolved a land dispute among three families in Ramial area of Adenzai.

Two persons, including Mohammad Nazir Mishwani and Farhan Khan, were killed and one was injured during a clash among the rivals on the Chakdara Bypass Road several months ago.

The feud had risked peace in the area.

The Adenzai Islahi Jirga led by Khawaja Faizul Ghafoor had started efforts to end the enmity, bringing the warring tribes to the negotiating table.

A function to settle the dispute was held in Chakdara with Brigadier Sanaullah of the Pakistan Army in the chair.

The jirga members, elders of the rival parties, government officials and political activists attended the function.

Talking to reporters, Malik Khan Badshah Mishwani from one side and Ali Rehman from the other thanked the jirga members for resolving their dispute amicably. They also promised to keep the jirga’s decision.

SPRING PLANTATION: Acting district education officer Mahboob Elahi on Friday launched the spring plantation drive by planting a sapling at the lawns of government high school, Mian Banda.

School’s head Shahid Anwar and his staff members was also present.

Mr Elahi said all public sector schools would be engaged to take active part in this year’s tree plantation drive. He said trees had a vital role in keeping the environment clean and healthy.

ANTI-POLIO DRIVE: The Lower Dir district administration on Friday reviewed arrangements for the five-day anti-polio drive commencing from Feb 26.

Deputy commissioner Wasil Khan chaired the meeting, which was also attended by assistant commissioner, Samarbagh, Suhail Khan, medical superintendent District Headquarters Hospital, Timergara, Dr Ali Asghar, deputy district health officer Dr Wali Khan, district administrator Afghan refugees Humayun Khan, district khateeb Maulana Azizul Haq, officials of education and police departments.

The meeting was informed that 1,337 teams had been formed to vaccinate a total of 345,833 children in the district.

The DC directed the stakeholders to cover all the refusal cases during the drive.
