GUJRANWALA, March 3: A boy was killed and 25 others injured in basant-related incidents and aerial firing here on Friday. Amir, 12, was flying a kite with metal wire on the roof of his house in Deganwala Bazaar when it touched an electricity wire and he died due to a shock.
Some 12 boys were injured after falling from the roofs and walls of their houses and as many others sustained injuries owing to aerial firing.
The injured were taken to the local DHQ hospital where the condition of two of them was stated to be serious.
The Kite Flying Association had decided to celebrate basant on Friday. The youth celebrated basant night on Thursday in flood lights. They also played loud music thus disturbing the peace of citizens. Aerial firing continued throughout the night and even on Friday.
Reports said the kite flyers also used metal wire despite a ban by the Supreme Court,
but police failed to arrest any violator.
courts: The courts of judicial and special magistrates will be shifted to new building from district courts on March 15 while labour, anti-corruption and banking courts be set up at these vacated courts.
This was stated by a judicial officer here on Friday.
He said the latter courts were running in rented buildings in different areas causing inconvenience to the lawyers and the litigant people.
SALARIES: Sanitary workers and other officials of four towns — Nandipur, Khiali, Aroop and Qila Dedar Singh — expressed resentment over non-payment of salaries for the last two months and demanded immediate payment of their dues.
They said at a meeting held here on Friday that since the division of city and Saddar tehsil councils into four town under the city district government, their salaries have been withheld.
However, towns administration said their salaries would be disbursed soon.
