ISLAMABAD, March 3: British parliamentarian Lord Alex Carlile along with his delegation on Friday called on the Federal Minister for Law, Justice and Human Rights Mr Wasi Zafar and the Secretary Law, Justice and Human Rights Mr Justice (Retd) Mansoor Ahmed.

Lord Alex Carlile, a lawyer by profession, is engaged by the British government as an expert consultant on anti-terrorism laws. He is also considered an authority worldwide on the anti-terrorism laws.

During his meeting with the federal law minister and secretary law, both sides exchange views on anti-terrorist laws in their countries.

Mr Wasi Zafar told the delegation about the various anti-terrorism laws, the anti-terrorism court structure and the trial system in Pakistan.

The minister said that the judiciary in these courts worked independently and effectively and had enough powers to ensure their effectiveness but at the appeal stage there were some problems due to the shortage of judges, and steps were being taken to overcome this problem at the apex level.
