SARGODHA: The District Health Authority, in collaboration with the PMA and the Private Hospital Association of Sargodha, conducted the 12th training session on Monday, overseen by Dr Sikandar Hayat Warraich, divisional focal person.

Over 500 employees from private hospitals have undergone this crucial training.

In the session, more than 50 doctors, nurses, OTAs, and class IV employees from various private healthcare facilities received comprehensive training.

Dr Warraich spoke on the significance of proper hospital waste disposal, and highlighted the potential risk of infections for both patients and staff. He said that effective waste management is crucial, with every member of the healthcare setup taking responsibility.

Dr Warraich urged stakeholders to adhere to the Hospital Waste Management Rules 2014 for infection prevention and control. He said there should be training of all staff members in a hospital about controlling the spread of germs. This training, he said, plays a pivotal role in achieving this goal.

To prevent disease outbreaks, Dr Warraich said that all private and public healthcare facilities implement a robust waste management system. In case of self-inflicted syringe needle injuries, immediate actions, such as washing affected areas with running water were highlighted. Furthermore, those involved should undergo testing for hepatitis, TB, and HIV-AIDS promptly, with subsequent treatment if required. Such cases should be duly registered in the hospital records.

Faisal Rasheed, district manager of the Infection Control Department, reiterated the responsibilities of hospital staff in forming waste management teams, developing waste management plans, and implementing Punjab Waste Management Rules, 2014. Handwashing measures, aligned with World Health Organization guidelines, were demonstrated during the training.
