PESHAWAR, March 2: A representative delegation of transporters comprising office-bearers of different transport organisations called on the NWFP governor, Khalilur Rehman, at the Governor’s House here on Thursday and expressed determination to provide smooth and peaceful transport to commuters on Friday.
The delegation, which was headed by Haji Ihsanullah Khan, president of the United Transporters Association, who is also a known social and political figure, requested the governor to help them in ensuring security and safety of their workers and assets.
The members of the delegation also condemned the violent incidents during recent protests in Peshawar, especially on the 15th of February, in which buses of a private company had been torched.
The transporters stated that they had no links with mischievous elements and justice should be ensured for those who had been arrested by law-enforcement agencies.
The governor appreciated the spirit of the transporters and said that peaceful protest was their right but violence would not be tolerated. In fact, such incidents have brought a bad name to the people and the country, the governor added.
