GUJRAT, March 1: A rift between the bureaucracy and the Gujrat tehsil nazim over Karrianwala land-grabbing issue could not be resolved as the latter threatened to lay siege to the DCO office.

The district nazim office, however, did not issue any fresh statement in this regard. A violence incident had occurred in Karrianwala between residents and occupants of the land the other day.

Tehsil Nazim Saadat Nawaz Ajnala had held DCO Saadat Ali, tehsildar Waqar Khan and DDO (revenue) Rana Manzoor responsible for the incident. He had also termed the three officials corrupt and demanded their immediate transfer.

On the other hand, District Nazim Chaudhry Shafaat Husain had protected the three officials.

In a fresh handout issued by the tehsil nazim, Mr Ajnala threatened that residents of NA-104 (the constituency of MNA Chaudhry Wajahat Husain) and Gujrat tehsil would besiege the DCO office if their demand was not met within a short span of time.

He said the DCO had entirely ignored the committee formed by the district nazim for the solution of the issue due to his good relations with former MNA Nawabzada Ghazanfar Gul.

He requested the district council to also join hands over the issue. He said that he would obey the decision given by the committee, but he affirmed that he would not change his stance against the DCO and other two officials.

It may be mentioned that Ghazanfar Gul had accused Ajnala and his brother Shujaat of grabbing a costly piece of land which is a part of an official park.

Denying the charges, Ajnala had said the land was not official but was owned by one of his close friends Mehdi Khan.
