KARACHI: An angry mob lynched two suspected robbers after they shot dead a citizen and wounded two others in Sohrab Goth on Thursday evening, police and hospital officials said.

Area SHO Gul Baig said two armed robbers attempted to snatch cell phones from citizens sitting outside a shop in Ganna Mandi near Machhar Colony. As the citizens put up resistance, the robbers became jittery and opened fire on them.

As a result, one citizen, identified as Saad Gul, was killed while Abdul Samad and Abdul Jabbar suffered bullet wounds.

Seeing that, area people chased the fleeing robbers and got hold of them. They subjected the muggers to severe beating, killing them on the spot, the SHO said.

The bodies and wounded victims were shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

Police Surgeon Summaiya Syed said Saad Gul, 26, was brought dead at the hospital. He had suffered three bullet wounds in the chest, abdomen and leg.

She said wounded Samad had suffered a single bullet wound in a foot. She said that the third victim was shifted to the Liaquat National Hospital.

The police surgeon said that both the muggers, who were in their early 20s, suffered gunshot wounds and were severely beaten by the enraged mob with hard and blunt weapons.

The police said that their identity could not be ascertained till late in the night.

Meanwhile, two suspected robbers were arrested in wounded condition after an alleged encounter in Malir on Friday.

Police said that the encounter took place near Saudabad Sector B. The wounded robbers were identified as Sultan Shah and Asadullah.

They were shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for treatment.
