Iran’s “fundamental policy” is a “strong response to enemies” who launch attacks on its soil, Tehran’s ambassador to the United Nations warns, Al Jazeera reports.

Amir Saeid Iravani told reporters at UN headquarters in New York that any strikes on “Iran’s territory, or its interests or citizens abroad” would face a “decisive response”.

The comments come as Washington eyes retaliation after armed groups in Iraq launched a drone strike on a US base in Jordan that killed three American soldiers and wounded dozens of others.

Iravani said he wrote to the UN Security Council president to say Iran isn’t responsible for strikes carried out by armed groups in the Middle East in response to Israel’s grisly onslaught on Gaza.
