SAHIWAL, Feb 28: Differences have surfaced between the convener/naib nazim and the district nazim during the first session of the council held here on Monday evening. Reports said convener/naib nazim Malik Faisal Ahmed Langrial adjourned the session due to lack of quorum and non-distribution of the agenda in the house. On the other hand, district nazim Rai Hassan Nawaz separately continued proceedings of the house with a senior nazim acting as the convener.

The house approved the amended budget for 2004-05 amouting to Rs2.5 billion with an expenditure of Rs2.2 billion. The house also passed the amended budget for 2005-06 worth Rs2.4 billion. Rs64.37 million had been earmarked for development for 2005-06.

Later speaking at a press conference, naib nazim Malik Faisal Ahmed Langrial, opposition leader Naveed Aslam Lodhi along with 45 members held the session ‘unlawful.’ They said that the presence of 95 members was necessary for the approval of budget whereas only 71 elected representatives had attended the session.
