LOWER DIR: A total of 185 polling stations in Lower Dir district have been declared highly sensitive, 292 sensitive and 138 as normal, for which more than 4,000 police personnel would be deployed to conduct peaceful elections on two national and five provincial assembly seats on Feb 8.

Talking to reporters here on Friday, an official of the police department said a total of 615 polling stations would be set up in the district. The official said 1,295 personnel would be deployed at highly sensitive, 1,460 at sensitive and 552 at normal polling stations. He said policewomen would be posted at the stations set up for women.

A total of 100 candidates of different political parties and independents are in the run. According to political analysts, tough contests are expected among the PTI, PPP, JI and ANP candidates on these seats.

PML-N ELECTION CAMPAIGN: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz district chapter on Friday launched its election campaign by holding a workers’ convention in Khaima area here.

PML-N candidate for NA-6 Haji Roohullah, PK-14 Malik Numan Yousafzai, district president Malik Farooq Iqbal and others spoke. They insisted PML-N would come into power after the Feb 8 polls.

The speakers said people had become fed up with mere slogans and hollow promises and they were eyeing PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif to serve them. They said the party would never disappoint people.

Meanwhile, PML-N candidate for NA-7 Yasir Khan, while addressing different corner meetings in Rabat, Talash and Khadagzai, said mega development projects would be approved for Lower Dir if the party candidates won the elections. He said PML-N would make the Timergara Medical College and Koto hydropower station functional.
