Qatar is temporarily halting some gas shipments to Europe because attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea are resulting in longer travel times, Al Jazeera reports.
European buyers have been informed of delays and rescheduled shipments, Bloomberg News reports. At least six shipments destined for Europe were diverted since mid-January around the Cape of Good Hope in southern Africa, instead of the shorter Red Sea and Suez Canal route.
The US announced the launch of a multinational force last month to protect trade in the Red Sea after attacks by Yemen’s Houthis. The armed group says it is targeting Israel-linked vessels because of the attack on Gaza.
