KARACHI: The Jamaat-i-Islami has announced an ambitious programme that included rectification of anomalies in the population count of Karachi, empowerment of youth and women as well as best transport and health facilities under its manifesto titled Manshoor-i-Karachi.

JI-Karachi chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman promised to implement his party’s manifesto specifically of Karachi if voted to power in the Feb 8 general elections.

Speaking at a press conference here on Sunday, he said that the basic point of the manifesto was the progress and development of Karachi because it would ensure the progress and development of Pakistan.

He said that in order to empower the youth and create employment opportunities, the JI would offer IT-based skill development programmes.

He also vowed to upgrade all public sector schools to model schools.

Hafiz Naeem said that his party would issue health card to the people of Karachi as well as those living in rural areas of Sindh.

Talking about the gas crisis in the city, he said that the JI would address the matter and ensure smooth supply of gas to domestic consumers.

He also vowed to lower the gas tariff.

The JI leader said that Karachi would be made a safe city, equip the police department with latest technology and increase the salaries of policemen. He said that fresh recruitment would be made in the Karachi police.

He promised to revive the Karachi Circular Railway and convert the bus rapid transit lines into a light train project if voted to power.

He also vowed to launch a women empowerment programme under which a dedicated transport for women, entrepreneurship opportunities for housewives and neighbourhood committees dedicated for women issues would be established.
