Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz will depart for Brussels in Belgium in the evening to meet with European Union foreign ministers on the situation in Gaza, Al Jazeera reports.

Katz will address a meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council, which includes 27 foreign ministers to further highlight Tel Aviv’s push for destroying Hamas and secure the release of captives held in the Gaza Strip, according to a foreign ministry statement.

The Israeli diplomat is expected to hold separate meetings as well, including with the bloc’s foreign policy chief Josep Borrell, and chief diplomats of France, Greece, Denmark, Austria, Croatia, Belgium, Bulgaria, and the Czech Republic, as well as other senior EU officials.

“At the meetings, I will work to mobilise the European Union to exert pressure to secure the return of the hostages, take action against Hamas, and advance economic projects that will transform the region and counter Iran,” he said.
