KARACHI: Commissioner Muhammad Saleem Rajput has directed all district returning officers (DROs) to strictly ensure the implementation of the code of conduct issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan.

Presiding over a meeting with officers of the ECP at the Sindh Secretariat on Friday night, he asked all DROs and Returning Officers (ROs) to hold meetings with participating candidates at their offices and make sure that the code of conduct of the ECP was implemented.

The meeting reviewed arrangements for the general elections in Karachi.

The DROs and ROs informed that sensitive polling stations had been identified where CCTV cameras would be installed.

The participants took notice of complaints of code of conduct violations, especially the use of public property, including roads, for display of banners and billboards of candidates belonging to different political parties.

The contesting candidates were asked not to use roads and other public property for election campaigning, and action would be initiated against the violators.

The commissioner said efforts would be made to hold impartial, free and fair elections in the division and in this respect, the ECP’s directives would be strictly followed.
