THE crime rate is increasing in Pakistan with the passage of time. An 18-year-old labourer was murdered in Wahi Pandhi police station jurisdiction in Dadu recently. The relevant police officials did not allow an FIR for a week, citing hurdles that were purely fabricated. It was only after a lot of a hue and cry by the locals that an FIR was finally registered.

Police have not been able to make a breakthrough in the case so far. Police are not pursuing the investigation the right way. The deceased’s body had foreign blood samples on it, but no DNA test has been done of the accused.

Police have shown complete apathy in the case, and are not sharing any details with the heirs of the deceased. A complaint in this regard was registered with the relevant complaint manage-ment system (Tracking No. 190137), but all such efforts went down the drain.

The parents of the deceased labourer are not literate. They have held demons- trations to have the investi-gation officer changed, but all their efforts have been in vain thus far.

The higher authorities should look into the matter, and appoint some honest investigators to expedite the case fairly.
