The US has secured a commitment from Saudi Arabia to help rebuild Gaza after the conflict and support a reformed Palestinian government in the enclave, Al Jazeera reports, citing NBC News.

During this process, Saudi Arabia has also offered to normalise with Israel, but only on the condition that Israeli leaders make way for a path to Palestinian statehood, NBC News reports, citing four senior White House officials.

However, with Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu still unwilling to entertain talk of a Palestinian state, US President Joe Biden is “looking past him” to see this vision realised, said the senior administration officials cited by NBC News.

Netanyahu “will not be there forever”, several of the officials told the outlet.
