KARACHI, Feb 26: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan appreciated the city and town administrations across the province for ensuring peace during the processions taken out and meetings held to mark protest against blasphemous images published in the western media.

He was chairing a high-level meeting on Sunday to review law and order situation in the province.

“The dignity with which the people registered their pain and concern over the provocative instances reflects close coordination among administration, Ulema and the public,” he commented.

The meeting was also attended by Sindh Information Adviser Salahuddin Haider, Sindh Chief Secretary Fazlur Rehman, DG Rangers Major-Gen Javed Zia, City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal, Home Secretary Brig Ghulam Mohammad Mohtaram, Sindh Police IG Jehangir Mirza, City Police Chief Niaz Siddiqui, Acting Principal Secretary Javed Hanif and others.

Speaking on the occasion, the governor clarified that measures adopted to prevent untoward incidents were not temporary arrangements and the government was fully cognizant of its responsibilities.

Dr Ibad also directed for firm steps to contain reported events of abduction and burglaries in the province.

Meanwhile, speaking at a function held to recount his 3 year’s tenure as Sindh governor, Dr Ibad said, “For the steps taken for betterment of people, the credit goes to the chief minister, ministers and other colleagues”.

He said that among the steps taken for the progress and facilitation of common man with collective consultation, being the most important element, full attention was paid on good governance.

Referring to law and order in particular, the governor said that because of its improvement, the closed industrial units in Nooriabad had started functioning.

The present government, he said, paid due attention to real issues and solved those issues which remained unattended for long and thus the government deserved credit for it.

Condemning the publication of blasphemous sketches, he praised the Ulema for taking out big rallies in a peaceful manner.

He also mentioned the government’s developmental achievements and said that the establishment of Education City, Garment City, Textile City, Automobile City, and Media City were some of the examples.
