JI wants more contacts with PML-N

ISLAMABAD, Feb 2: The Jamaat-i-Islami has called upon the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz group) to increase political contacts between the two parties.

In a letter, addressed to PML-N Chairman Raja Zafarul Haq, JI Amir Qazi Hussain Ahmed said the political situation of the country demanded more contacts between the two former allies.

He thanked Mr Haq for coming to the Supreme Court during the hearing of his petition.

The PML-N chairman told NNI that the letter of the JI chief had referred to the political situation in the country.

Replying to a question, he said the PML-N had a desire to enter into an election alliance with religio-political parties.

Despite contacts with the JI, no formal talks had been held, he said and added that talks with JI acting chief Liaquat Baloch could not be held due to the release and the re-arrest of Mr Ahmed.

He said the matter would be discussed by the executive committee on Monday.
