23 booked for felling trees

NAWABSHAH, Feb 23: Police on Thursday registered a case against 23 people for cutting trees and sowing crop on the government land in Thatt Jagir forests. Range Forest Officer Suleman Suhag lodged an FIR at the Kishwarpur police station against Safar Otho, Malir Junejo, Shabbir Chandio, Mehmood Chandio, Jabbar Chandio, Yaqoob Chandio, Jamal Hussain Kori, Jummo Mari, Ismail Kaloi, Ismail Rind, Bilawal Chandio, Laloo Chandio, Haji Qubul Chandio, Ali Sher Chandio, Ramzan Rind, Bachal Mari, Sheral Mari, Naseer Mari, Gul Mari, Ali Gul Mari, Arz Moha-mmad Mari and Ali Sher Watoo.

The RFO stated in the FIR that the accused chopped trees in Thatt Jagir forests and sowed crop in the government land.

No arrest was made till the filing of this report.

PROTEST: Tail-end farmers of the Lundki minor, Dad irrigation division, staged a demonstration outside the Daulatpur press club on Thursday in protest against shortage of water.

Khar Union Council Nazim Mumtaz Dahri led the protesters.

The protesters carried placards and raising slogans against the irrigation department.

They said that their lands had become barren due to shortage of irrigation water. They alleged that irrigation officials were selling water to influential landlords.
