Journalist says Israel is on a ‘strict timeline’

Independent journalist Antony Loewenstein says Israel is on a “really strict timeline”, which explains why it increased its military operations in Khan Younis, Al Jazeera reports.

“Of course, there’s a real disconnect between what [Prime Minister] Netanyahu is telling the Israeli public and what’s actually happening, and the mission from the beginning has always been to destroy Hamas entirely, militarily, politically, and it’s increasingly clear that’s not likely to happen,” Loewenstein, author of The Palestine Laboratory, told Al Jazeera.

“So I think this idea of putting more troops into Gaza I think shows that there’s an increasing desire to kill indiscriminately.”
