SAHIWAL, Feb 22: At least 18 gamblers were arrested while 10 of them were consigned to the Central Jail on a 14-day judicial remand here on Wednesday.
Police also recovered Rs16,800 stake money from the possession of the arrested accused.
Reports said the police of Grain Market, Fateh Sher and City conducted a joint operation against the parchi gamblers. The police made the arrest of gamblers after a mild baton-charge.
Police arrested accused, including Kamra, Nadeem and Alam, from Mazdoor Pulli and registered cases against them. Later, they were sent to jail on a 14-day judicial remand.
Some eight gamblers, including hand-cart vendor Kala, were also arrested. Kala sustained injuries during the police action.
INJURED: An adviser to the Punjab chief minister was injured in an accident on Sahiwal Bypass Road here on Tuesday night.
Reports said that Malik Khalid Mahmood was going to Lahore from Bahawalpur by his official car when another car coming from Kamir collided head-on with it. As a result, Khalid Mahmood sustained injuries and was shifted to Mayo Hospital, Lahore.
Grain Market police have registered a case.
LOOTED: Armed bandits in four different strikes looted cash, ornaments and valuables worth Rs1.3 million here during the last 24 hours.
Four masked bandits entered the house of Muhammad Sharif in Chak 16/14-L and held the family members hostage at pistol point. The accused collected ornaments valuing Rs700,000, wristwatches, cell phones and Rs100,000 in cash and escaped while firing in the air.
Later, the same bandits entered the house of farmer Muhammad Yaseen. At pistol point, the bandits scooped ornaments worth Rs310,000 and Rs50,000 in cash and disappeared after locking the family in a room.
Five armed robbers intercepted trader Lal Muhammad and his colleagues Shaaban and Chiragh at the General Bus Stand. After subjecting him to severe torture, the culprits snatched from him Rs60,000 and escaped from the scene. The injured was admitted to hospital where his condition was stated to be serious.
Eight gunmen entered the house of Abid Yaqoob, collected cash and ornaments valuing Rs75,000 and disappeared.
Police have registered separate cases.
