KARACHI: Three suspected robbers, who allegedly shot dead a man over resistance, were lynched by an angry mob in Orangi Town on Thursday night, police said.

Orangi Town SHO Syed Ali Raza said 30-year-old Shehroz Aslam was shot dead by the suspects over resisting robbery in Sector 1D, Qadhafi Chowk, near Barkat Hospital.

The suspects were fleeing when the area people caught hold of them and subjected them to severe beating before arrival of the police.

The SHO added that the suspects were badly injured and taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for treatment and doctors on duty referred them to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. However, they died on the way.

He said the suspects were brought back to the ASH for medico-legal formalities. Their identity could not be ascertained immediately.

The officer said three pistols and one stolen motorcycle were recovered from their custody.

Woman stabbed to death ‘by brother’

A woman was killed allegedly by her brother in Azizabad on Thursday.

Police said the victim, Kulsoom Majeed, 60, was stabbed to death by her brother, 42-year-old Naeem, inside their flat.

The suspect was arrested along with the knife he used in the murder.

Area SHO Arshad Ali said Naeem was addicted to ice. He was living with her widowed sister, who had no children. He told the police that his four sisters and one brother had sold the property inherited from their parents and that he killed Kulsoom because they were not giving him his share.

Man shot dead

A shopkeeper was shot dead in an attack on his car by armed pillion riders at Sakhi Hassan Chowrangi on late Wednesday night, according to police and rescuers.

The victim, Mohammed Meraj, 55, was travelling in his car along with his brother when some armed men riding a motorbike opened fire on him at Five Star bridge.

He suffered critical wounds and was transported to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

Central SSP Faisal Abdullah Chachar said the motive behind the killing could not be ascertained immediately.

Taimuria SHO Liaquat Hayat Mehsud said the victim’s brother, Naqash, had told the police that they had no political or religious affiliation with any group. They had received no extortion call either.

The deceased, a resident of Orangi Town-10, ran a rental shoes shop in Haroon Shopping Centre at Sakhi Hassan.

The police collected two spent bullet casings fired from a 9mm pistol. The SHO said a murder case had been registered against unknown suspects on complaint of the victim’s brother.

Shopkeeper gunned down by robbers

A shopkeeper was shot dead by suspected robbers in Mowach Goth on Thursday morning.

Moachko police said Hasanul Rehman, 35, was killed by the robbers inside the market where his shop was located.

The incident enraged other shopkeepers who protested against the murder.

Keamari SSP Arif Aslam Rao said that, apparently, the murder was related to a robbery as the suspects had taken away some cash from the shop and killed the shopkeeper over resistance.
