LARKANA, Feb 22: A strike was observed in different parts of Sindh on Wednesday in protest against publication of blasphemous cartoons.
In Larkana, tight security arrangements had been made and Rangers and police had been deployed at churches as a shutter-down and wheel-jam strike was observed in the city.
The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal and the Alliance for Restoration of Democracy had given the strike call.
Different religious and political parties took out a procession which after marching through main roads of the city converged at the Jinnahbagh gate.
The protesters burnt effigies of Denmark leaders.
Speaking on the occasion, District People’s Party Parliamentarians president Ayaz Soomro, District Jamaat Islami Ameer Shamasuddain Abbasi, Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam leader Iqbal Soomro, Sindh Taraqqi Pasand leader Ahmad Nawaz Brohi and others demanded that people involved in the publication of the sacrilegious caricatures should be punished.
They called for severing diplomatic relations with Denmark and other countries where the blasphemous cartoons had been published.
They announced a Rs1 billion award for a person who killed the cartoonists.
NAUSHAHRO FEROZE: A strike was observed in the district against the blasphemous cartoons.
Activists of the JUI-F, JI, PPP, PPP-SB, PML-N, JSQM, SNP and the Sindhi Adabi Sangat took out a procession. They condemned the publication of the sacrilegious caricatures.
SANGHAR: A procession was taken out by members of the local chapter of the Sindh Paramedical Staff Association.
The procession started from the civil hospital and marched through various roads.
The participants demanded boycott of Danish and other European countries’ products.
They termed the publication of the blasphemous cartoons a deliberate attempt to hurt the feelings of Muslims.
