KARACHI, Feb 22: Prof Adibul Hasan Rizvi, Director, Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation, chaired the inaugural session of the Institute of Kidney Diseases, Liaqut National Hospital, here on Wednesday.

The newly established unit is a state of art facility sheltering two major sub-specialties of nephrology and urology under one roof at one of the city’s largest tertiary-care hospital in the city.

The inaugural session, among others, was also attended by Medical Director, Dr Asim Hasan and Director Administration, Dr Ali Azmat Abidi.

Prof Iffat Yazdani, Director of the LNH Institute of Kidney Diseases, speaking on the occasion reiterated her commitment to make the facility also an academic cornerstone in the region.

Efforts would be made to gain a reputation defined by excellence in patient care, education and research, she said.

Dr Yazdai also highlighted the mission of her team of skilled and highly qualified kidney experts, including nephrologists and urologists, together to provide the highest quality but cost-effective healthcare facilities to patients in need, with due consideration for ethics.

The Institute, comprising urology and nephrology units, on the same floor with a nine-bed intensive care unit, 24-hour running 18-bed dialysis unit with separate machines for Hepatitis B and C positive patients.

The facilities of Hemo-diafilteration and peritoneal dialysis are being streamlined. There is a four-bed high dependency unit, separate renal transplant unit and wards for male and female patients for nephrology and urology, separately.

The urology unit is providing full range of endo-urology services with open surgical procedures.—APP
