NEW DELHI, Feb 21: Former Indian cricket board president Jagmohan Dalmiya could face action over financial irregularities concerning bank accounts related to the 1996 World Cup, a senior board official said on Tuesday.

“The issue relates to financial transactions that were entered into which members thought were not proper,” Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) treasurer N.Srinivasan said.

“Some action has to be taken. The process and timing will be decided by the president (Sharad Pawar),” he told reporters after a meeting of the decision-making working committee.

A report by Srinivasan to the meeting, copies of which were given to the media, suggested that funds may have been misused.

Dalmiya was the convenor-secretary of the Pakistan India Lanka Committee (PILCOM) formed for the event jointly staged by the three countries.

Dalmiya, a former president of the International Cricket Council (ICC), was ousted as BCCI president by a group led by federal minister Pawar in bitterly-fought elections in November.

Srinivasan’s report also said Dalmiya failed to provide records for many transactions when accounts were handed over to the new office-bearers.—Reuters
