LANDI KOTAL, Feb 21: A man gunned down a prominent tribal elder and injured Bara’s political tehsildar here on Monday. The incident took place in the premises of Bara Tehsil Office moments before Maghrib prayer. After the firing, the assailant ran away, leaving behind his rifle and shoes.

Bara Qambar Khel elder Haji Muhammad Rakhman had come to the tehsil office to attend a jirga convened to review law and order situation in the area. When Haji Rakhman and Tehsildar Khalid Kundi came out of the tehsil office, they were fired upon with kalashnikov from the roof of a nearby mosque. Both of them received bullet injuries and Haji Muhammad Rakhman died in a Peshawar hospital. The deceased was cousin of ANP vice president Imran Afridi.
