Families of captives have put out a statement today accusing the Israeli government of playing Russian roulette with their loved ones, Al Jazeera reports.

They said they want an urgent update on why there’s been a total freeze on negotiations.

The indications are from the Israeli war cabinet that they have a unanimous view that there’s no point sending anyone to Qatar because they believe that Hamas in Gaza cannot make contact with Hamas’s leadership in Qatar, so there’s no way of finding out what Hamas wants.

The difference in approach in the cabinet is between Netanyahu and Gallant. Netanyahu wants to take a passive approach, to wait and see if and when Hamas reestablishes contact.

Whereas Gallant is more in favor of the Qataris trying to pursue Hamas to find out what they want from negotiations.
