KHYBER: Police arrested the ringleader of a car lifters gang and recovered a stolen car from him in Bara here on Sunday.

Officials said that an intelligence-based raid was conducted on a house early on Sunday morning. They said Bakhtawar Shah, an active member of a notorious car lifters gang, was arrested during the raid, they added.

They said the arrested man shared names of some other members of his group during initial investigation. They said that police formed teams to locate and arrest the rest of the car lifters.

Also in the day, police arrested a drug peddler in Gharreeza locality of Jamrud and recovered from his possession one thousand grams of ice. The arrested man, who belonged to Peshawar, was later sent to Jamrud sub-jail.

Meanwhile, the residents of far-off Bazaar-Zakhakhel area of Landi Kotal have demanded of National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) to open a centre in their area as they face difficulties in visiting Landi Kotal for acquisition of Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs).

Attaullah Afridi, a councillor from the area, said that residents of Bazaar-Zakhakhel, Brag, Karamna and Alacha areas had to go back their homes empty hands as they were denied tokens for new CNICs as they usually reached late the Nadra office in Landi Kotal due to long distance.
