LAKKI MARWAT: Speakers at a discussion held here on Saturday declared corruption as one of the main reasons for environmental pollution in the country, and called for integrated efforts to eliminate the menace.

The discussion was arranged by Shahabkhel welfare organisation in the Lakki city to mark International Anti-Corruption Day.

The organisation’s focal person Haji Inayatullah Khan, neighbourhood council chairman Eng Latifullah Khan, Zafrullah Khan Advocate, Imranuullah Marwat of Awami National Party, political and social activists spoke.

They said malpractices and negligence by departments concerned had caused smog in Punjab, especially in Lahore. They said a lenient action against the industries contributing to pollution was a question mark on the performance of relevant public sector organisations.

The speakers said abuse of power and had created numerous problems in the society, and underlined the need to promote transparency, strengthen accountability and ensure enforcement of laws to curb malpractices and corruption in the country.

Also in the day, the education department and the boy scouts’ association orgnanised a seminar in Lakki city to mark the day.

The district administration, the education department and boy scouts association also organised a walk in the city the other day to raise awareness against corruption.

MEETING: Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl has asked the government to take concrete measures for improving poor law and order situation in the Lakki Marwat district.

The demand was made at a meeting held in the Mufti Mehmood Town here on Saturday.

RESHUFFLED: Nine police officials, including four SHOs, were reshuffled in Lakki Marwat the other day.

According to an order, Saddar police station SHO Sub-Inspector (SI) Sadullah was made SHO Lakki city police station. SI Mudassir Hayat, who was SHO Shaheed Haibat Ali Khan police station of Darra Pezu town, was transferred and posted SHO Saddar police station.

SHO Shahbazkhel police station SI Ayaz Khan was directed to report to the police lines. Bargai police station SHO Zaman Shah replaced him.

ASI Naqeeb Nawaz and SI Zahidullah were made SHOs of Shaheed Haibat Ali Khan and Bargai police stations, respectively. ASIs Anwarullah, Sajjad Khan and Asif Khan were transferred and posted to Lakki city, Dadiwala and Shjaheed Haibat Ali Khan police stations, respectively.
