INDUSTRIAL POLICIES: Every time a government in Pakistan names some advisory committee comprising industrialists, the nominations ignore qualifications and experience, and, instead, focus on one’s family and social connections; it really helps to have a wealthy father, if not forefathers. This explains our consistent failure to even set the ball of industrial revolution rolling. A more construc- tive approach would be for the government to actively address the issues faced by small and medium industries, enabling their growth and, consequently, improving the overall economic health of the larger industrial sector.

BEUTIFICATION: Recently, the caretaker chief minister of Sindh was quoted by the media as saying that he wanted the roads in Karachi to be beautified. The citizens of Karachi would like the chief minister, and everybody else who has anything to do with it, to simply forget the element of beautification; just give us, the citizens, some roads worthy enough to be called roads. Next, effort should be made to fix traffic congestion on those roads.

STREET ANIMALS: Street animals, particularly dogs, cats and cows, are exposed to harsh weather conditions, starvation, disease and the constant danger of traffic accidents. While some local organisations work to rescue and rehabilitate street animals, their efforts are often constrained by limited resources. We all must work together to improve the lives of these animals.

FACILITATING COMMUTERS: Hundreds of people commute every day from Gulshan-i-Hadeed and Shahrea Faisal to areas around Mai Kolachi. There is a need to extend the existing Metro Bus route to Sultanabad to facilitate the daily commute of the people.
