GUJRANWALA, Feb 18: An Anti-Corruption Establishment team, probing a Rs70 million embezzlement, on Saturday raided the Regional Transport Authority office and seized its record.
The divisional administration launched a TSG wagon service from Gujranwala to Gakhar, Wazirabad and Eminabad eight years ago. Thee RTA secretary issued the route permits to the wagons. It is alleged that around 1,200 wagons had been plying on the routes while the secretary was recovering Rs1,500 per month from them regularly.
Later, the administration cancelled the route permits when transport ministry launched franchised bus service.
According to report, district administration officers, including two former commissioners, three DCOs and six RTA secretaries allegedly embezzled the funds of TSG service. Probe into alleged misappropriation started on the complaint of TSG Union.
WATER COURSES: District Coordination Officer Manzer Hayat has expressed dissatisfaction over the slow pace of construction of water courses and asked the respective EDOs to get them completed within the stipulated period.
Speaking at a meeting held here on Saturday, he stressed the need for expeditious utilisation of funds for completion of water courses.
He pointed out that the provincial government would give a prize of Rs10 million to the district which would complete water courses on time and the amount would be spent on development schemes.
He took a serious notice of complaints that patwaris were not cooperating in this connection and ordered the EDO (revenue) to take punitive action against them.
Senior officers of agriculture, revenue and water management attended the meeting.
