PESHAWAR: The Khyber Medical University on Wednesday announced the results of the fresh Medical and Dental College Admission Test, 2023, with around 65.5 per cent pass rate.

The MDCAT was held afresh last Sunday after the provincial cabinet cancelled the September one over “cheating and massive irregularities.”

A total of 46,218 candidates registered themselves for the test and 34,852 of them (75 per cent)sat it, according to a news release.

It added that 21,206 (61 per cent) candidates passed the test for enrolment in MBBS course and 24,283 (70 per cent) for BDS programme.

Taimur Iqbal, Anam Khan, Amanullah, Mohammad Mutaal Azeem, Mohammad Asim Ayaz and Haseeb Khan shared the first position by obtaining 192 marks each, while the second position jointly went to Muneeba Hassan, Sangeen Khan and Zain Abid with 191 marks each.

Both Mussadiq Anwar and Muqtasid Khan stood third by getting 190 marks each.

The release said the test was held in 11 examination centres set up in seven regions of the province.

It said the candidates were required to obtain the minimum 110 and 100 marks out of a total of 200 marks to become eligible for admission to MBBS and BDS courses, respectively.

KMU Vice-Chancellor Prof Ziaul Haq congratulated the successful students and declared them the “pride of the nation.”

He said the well-coordinated efforts of the KMU, provincial government and security agencies ensured”100 per centtransparency and merit” in the MDCAT.

The VC appreciated the role of late caretaker chief minister Mohammad Azam Khan for his “keen interest in and supervision” of the test’s planning process.

He also praised the current CM retired Justice Syed Arshad Hussain Shah, governor Ghulam Ali, chief secretary, police chief, adviser to the chief minister on health Dr Riaz Anwar, ACS (home), law-enforcement agencies, divisional commissioners, DC, VCs, and deans of medical colleges over incredible support for the holding of the test.

Prof Haq said additional chief secretary (home and tribal affairs) Mohammad Abid Majeed oversaw the entire exercise from the government side and provided incredible support, while the KMU’s staff members showed fantastic leadership skills in performing assigned roles.
