DADU: Dadu police on Tuesday claimed arresting an important member of an dacoit gang operating in the area and injuring his associate.

Dadu SSP Shabbir Ahmed told a press conference at his office A-Section police had an encounter with the armed robbers near Shahjahan Park when they were on patrol.

He said that in the exchange of firing between the police and the robbers, the most wanted robber identified as Chanesar Loond fell injured and arrested.

He said that police found pistols and bullets in his possession. Police chased his associate who managed to escape, he said.

He said the dacoit was involved in the crimes of theft, robbery and encounters with police. His accomplices had committed several crimes in the areas of Dadu, Johi, Khairpur Nathan Shah, Sita Road town and Kachho region.

He said the dacoit was a member of the Jabo Chandio gang who was killed in an encounter near Mehar a day before. Initial investigation revealed that the injured robber was also involved in the murder of Amir Bakhsh Gadhi, a resident of Johi, during robbery attempt, he said.

He said that nine cases were registered against the robber at different police stations but further investigation was under way.
