KARACHI, Feb 17: Former Pakistan captain Shaiza Khan was on Friday named to lead Karachi Region in the second National women’s cricket Championship starting from March 1.

All-rounder Shaiza, who played 40 ODIs and three Tests will be returning to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) women’s wing fold after missing the second Women’s Asia Cup held late December/January.

Nabeela Asif has been named her deputy and it also included top batswoman Kiran Baloch, who hammered record breaking double hundred in the Test against the West Indies a couple of seasons ago.

Karachi Region squad was picked by a panel of former Test cricketers including Jalaluddin, Shaheed Israr and first class cricketer Waheed Mirza.

Chairman selection committee Jalaluddin said team was picked on the basis of past performance and on the basis of Inter-district championship.

He said four teams from Karachi, Hyderabad, Quetta and Multan will take part in the first round and two top teams will play in the main championship to be held in Lahore.

Shaiza Khan (captain), Nabeela Asif (vice-captain), Kiran Baloch, Sana Mir, Batool Fatima, Khursheed Jabeen, Sabina Hussain, Saima Ishaq, Fariyal Shah, Kanwal Naz, Urooj Mumtaz, Humeria Masroor, Mariam Butt and Fahmida Bariz.

Misbah Butt, Asia Khan, Nazli Ishtique and Sana Taj are reserve players.—APP
