Electricity bills for colony revised

HARIPUR, Feb 17: Authorities in Haripur’s T&T Housing Society on Friday issued revised electricity bills to residents whose bills had been prepared at a commercial rate. With a population of more than 3,000, the housing society is under the direct control of the T&T Colony administration and relies on it for the supply of gas, electricity and other facilities.

For the billing month of February, the residents were issued electricity bills at a commercial rate of Rs6 per unit.

When the residents approached the administration, they were told that they would have to pay their bills by Feb 23 on commercial rates or face the prospect of disconnection.

A delegation led by Nazim UC South Haripur Muhammad Irshad Khan later met Minister of State for Finance Omar Ayub Khan and discussed the issue with him. Pesco’s chief engineer in Peshawar, a Wapda representative and the power and industry secretary were present on the occasion. The meeting also deliberated upon the matter and decided that the T&T colony administration would not shut down power supply to the housing society and revise their electricity bills on domestic tariff.

Meanwhile, the country’s telephone industry will pay half the installation cost of a new electricity feeder for the housing society, which will later be handed over to Wapda.
