KARACHI: The body of a young student was found from the hostel of a private university within the remit of the Manghopir police station on Tuesday evening, police said on Wednesday.

They said that Aman Kumar, 20, was found dead in his Hamdard University hostel room and it appeared that the body had lain there for at least two days.

The corpse was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Police Surgeon Summaiya Syed said that the body was in an advanced stage of decomposition, but there were no visible injury marks.

She said that all samples had been collected and sent for a chemical examination to ascertain the exact cause of the death.

Area SHO Majid Alvi said that he was a second year student in the department of computer science. He was living alone in the hostel room and originally hailed from Shahdadkot.

He said that it appeared that the student died of natural causes, but the police were investigating the case.

Meanwhile, Hamdard University stated in a press release that the medico-legal office had declared that the student died of natural causes.

It said that the police were involved in the case and they were still investigating the case even though no cause for suspicion of wrongdoing had emerged so far.

The university also formed a three-member committee to investigate the case.

Meanwhile, the caretaker Sindh chief minister also took notice of the incident and asked the provincial police chief to hold an inquiry and submit him a report at the earliest.

Earlier in October, a research student of Karachi University’s International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences was also found dead in the hostel of the HEJ Research Institute. The administration later claimed that Mukhtiar Ali died of natural causes.
