LAHORE: The city traffic police on Wednesday continued its crackdown on underage drivers and those driving without a license with parents complaining about inadequate facilities of public transport available for their children to go to educational institutions on a daily basis.

The traffic police registered 3,345 cases against underage and unlicensed drivers during the last nine days of the crackdown.

The police came into action after a teenage boy speeding car hit another car in which six members of a family, including two minor children, died in a fatal road accident in the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) last week.

The city traffic police have registered 1,670 cases against drivers without licenses within a four-day period during the crackdown.

Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Mustansar Feroz said checkpoints were set up at 190 locations in the city’s outskirts to take action against the teenage and unlicensed drivers.

He urged the citizens to ensure the acquisition of their driving licenses and said that cases were also registered against the parents of the teenage and unlicensed drivers.

He appealed to parents not to allow children under the age of 18 to drive any vehicle, emphasizing that parents are directly responsible for their children’s future.

The CTO also said that the parents should take measures and stop their underage children from driving the vehicles.
