KARACHI: A man was killed when a fire broke out in his home in Gulistan-i-Jauhar on Tuesday, police and rescue services said.

An Edhi Foundation spokesperson said that Tahir Ahmed, 52, was at home when the fire broke out. He died of inhaling smoke.

The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities, he added.

In another incident, a minor girl was killed and her sister suffered burns when a fire erupted in their home in Federal B. Area on Tuesday evening, rescuers said.

They said that the incident took place in Block 20 near Roshan Bagh.

Six-year-old Sakeena Saifullah suffered serious and died while her sister, four-year-old Sidra was admitted to the Burns Centre of the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi for treatment.

The cause of fires could not be known in both the cases.
