Published February 15, 2006

LARKANA, Feb 14: Prominent social scientist and town planner Arif Hassan Khan has said that he intends to prepare a comprehensive plan for the Larkana city with modern civic amenities.

Addressing a reception hosted in his honour on Monday night at the Jinnah Citizen Club by the taluka municipal administration, Mr Hassan said that many a cities of Sindh were without basic amenities to cater to the needs of growing population.

He had travelled to the city on the invitation of the TMA Larkana.

Rasheed Khan of the Orangi Pilot Project accompanied him.

The main problem faced by cities besides increasing population was sewerage.

All schemes introduced to streamline sewerage system in cities ended up in failure, he added.

He said even the amount of Rs240 million extended by the Asian Development Bank for improvement of the drainage system of Karachi went down the drain.
