Chief justice wants IIUI standards improved

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Isa on Wednesday called for improving standards of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI).

Chief Justice being member of Board of Trustees (BoT) of the IIUI said that he wanted to raise the standard of the University as envisaged in the law and to restore its international character.

He passed this remarks during his meeting with Pro-Chancellor of IIUI Professor Dr Ahmad Salem Mohammad Al-Ameri, who is also President of the Imam Mohammad Bin Saud Islamic University, Riyadh.

A participant of the meeting said that CJP told the university’s pro-chancellor that he wanted to improve standards of IIUI for attracting foreign students, which would not only benefit local students as they would interact with them but improve the university’s financial position.

The chief justice also stressed the importance of holding regular meetings and ensuring that employees of the university attend to its affairs promptly. He said that those who have an agenda other than the university and students welfare would be proceeded against in accordance with the law.

Professor Dr Ahmad Salem Mohammad Al-Ameri was accompanied by Dr Mohammad Naji N. Al-Yamani, Director International Collaboration, Imam Mohammad Bin Saud Islamic University and Dr Hathal Homoud al-Otaibi, President IIUI during the meeting with Justice Qazi Faez Isa.

During the meeting Dr Ameri also informed the Chief Justice about his experience as the President of Imam Mohammad University where about 60,000 students, including a large number of international students, are receiving education.

CJP being member of board of various public sector universities has been taking special interest to bring improvement in country’s education sector. Recently, he attended the meeting of Syndicate of Quaid-i-Azam University, where mainly because of his support the meeting had decided to restore student union at QAU.

Similarly, he had also sought record from IIUI for his preparation before the next meeting of board of trustees of the university, which is planned to be held on Nov 30 as called by President Dr Arif Alvi, being chancellor of IIUI.

During his current visit, Dr Ameri held various meetings including the one with interim education minster Madad Ali Sindhi and Secretary Education Waseem Ajmal Chaudhry to discuss bilateral cooperation in education sector. He had also informed the education minster that Saudi government would increase number of scholarships for Pakistani students.

The IIUI is one of the largest public sector universities with around 30,000 students. It was established in 1980 in pursuance to a resolution by the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation.
